Designers and communities should be aware that the size and placement of signs affects the ability of all traffic to see and understand them in time to make travel safe. SRF has distilled available research regarding sign conspicuity and legibility to help educate local officials so that they write sign regulations which promote traffic safety, and/or educate designers with these principals when seeking variance from a prohibitive sign ordinance.?
